PHOEBE BRIDGERS FINDS HER WAY TO #1 WITH LOST WEEKEND. REB FOUNTAIN TOPS LOCAL ALBUMS CHART WITH WATER FOR GASOLINE
Phoebe Bridgers brings it home this week with her first-ever Aotearoa Top 40 #1 album. Lost Weekend debuts in the top spot, bearing the prints of your favourite pop star’s favourite producer Jack Antonoff and fellow indie hero Alex G, among other esteemed contributors. Bridgers last appeared in the Chart as a member of the supergroup Boygenius, whose 2023 album the record peaked at #2. Four tracks from the artist’s third solo album also enter the Hot 40 this week – although it’s ultimately led by crossover k-pop phenomena KATSEYE with their latest breakout banger ‘Hootie Frutti’.
Ella Langley claims a 14th week at #1 over on the Top 40 Singles Chart with ‘Choosin’ Texas’ – challenging the record set by her predecessor Olivia Dean, whose ‘Man I Need’ still holds the longest run at the top by a female artist (15 weeks). Women have held the #1 spot on the Top 40 Singles Chart every week for the last 13 months, with one exception: Wham! were #1 last Christmas with the perennial ‘Last Christmas’.
Reb Fountain claims her third #1 on the Aotearoa Top 20 Albums Chart, with Water For Gasoline – her first full-length album since 2023’s How Love Bends. Recorded in one live take, the powerful LP was built for the stage and also enters the Top 40 at #9. Lontalius also returns this wiki, with Real Fruit Ice Cream landing at #9 on the local Albums Chart, another mesmerising collection from the elusive yet prolific artist, who also inhabits the Race Banyon persona.
Hori Shaw and Te Wehi celebrate another Charts milestone as ‘Ready To Ride’ marks a 40th week at #1 on the NZ Singles Chart, while Flowidus crack the NZ Hot Chart with ‘Midnight Sound’. Featuring vocals from UK singer-songwriter HARLEE, the dnb track debuted on the Chart in May and re-enters this week in the peak position. TAWAZ, Stan Walker and Hone et al continue to lead the Tukutahi Tiketike 10 Te Reo Māori with ‘Mānawa Maiea Matariki’.
