Taylor Swift Sweeps the Charts with a Record-setting Release Week

It was less a case of whether Taylor Swift would be adding to her tally of #1 Albums and Singles Chart appearances this week, and more about which records she might trouble in the process.

The Life Of A Showgirl becomes the artist's 15th #1 album, extending the record she already held for most Album Chart-toppers, and going Gold the week of release – a rare occurrence in the modern streaming-driven era.

Swift matches another of her own records over on the Singles Chart, where ‘The Fate Of Ophelia’ claims the #1 spot, leading a total of nine tracks in the Top 10. This has happened only once before, and it was another Tay Tay success story – back on release of The Tortured Poets Department in April last year. Then it was Hozier who denied her the Top 10 clean sweep, this time it's Olivia Dean, who does it by hanging in at #5 with ‘Man I Need’.

‘Ophelia’ is the artist's ninth #1 single, drawing her second equal on the all-time list with Katy Perry. Only Justin Bieber has more, 12. The track also tops the Hot 40 Chart.

On the local front, Six60 remain atop the Top 20 Aotearoa Albums Chart while Hori Shaw & Te Wehi stay put at #1 on the Aotearoa Singles Top 20 with ‘Ready To Ride’Te Tira Waiata o Te Pukawai also hold at #1 on the Tukutahi Te Reo Māori Tiketike 10.

There’s a new #1 on the Aotearoa Hot 20 though, a collaboration by some of Pacific music's most recognisable names. ‘Cruise (Remix)’ is a new version of the Lomez Brown track that topped the Chart in November last year, this time with contributions from Finn Gruva, the late Fiji and Fejoint.
