KPOP DEMON HUNTERS HOLD AT #1
On the Top 40 Albums Chart, the KPop Demon Hunters soundtrack remains ensconced at #1 for a fifth week, tying with Encanto and Moana as the animated soundtracks to spend the longest time at #1. The animated action stars continue to rule the Top 40 Singles Chart too as 'Golden' retains its place at #1, one of five songs from the soundtrack to feature in this week’s Top 10.
East Auckland rapper Revus makes his mark on this week’s Charts with his debut album, Still Rollin’, topping the Top 20 Aotearoa Albums Chart and sliding in at #5 on the Top 40. For the music and tech nerds among us, the release is of additional note due to its innovative format, the first release to chart here featuring NFC (Near Field Communication) technology embedded in a keyring style mini CD. When held next to the buyer’s phone, the user can play the album via their phone, combining the physical and digital realms in one. Coincidentally, Revus is not the only local to make use of the tech this week. Afro-pop producer InDuna arrives at #16 on the Top 20 Aotearoa Albums Chart with his Go High EP, utilising NFC too.
Elsewhere on today’s Charts, we have a new #1 on the Top 20 Aotearoa Singles Chart, 'Ready To Ride', a collaboration by Hori Shaw and Te Wehi. Since April, the pair have taken turns leading this Chart, Lorde being the the only other NZ artist to claim top spot in that time. So it is not entirely surprising that the collaboration between the two gumboot-wearing independent reggae legends is propelled up the Chart this week to #1.
A brand new Chappell Roan single, 'The Subway', tops the Hot 40 Chart and opens at #3 on the Top 40 Singles Chart. It is Chappell's sixth Hot Chart appearance but first #1. Meanwhile a new local act, albeit one backed by a familiar name, lead the Hot 20 Aotearoa Chart. West Auckland duo Made You Look, containing Blindspott / I Am Giant drummer Shelton Woolwright alongside vocalist / producer Alex Thompson, claim the #1 this week with 'Sweater'.
